Gener - Les dones (Al Pagoda Remix)
This is pure ear candy. It has a great retro sound with a beautiful melody over it. So pleasing. This Spanish netlabel seems to always have good stuff.

Very Proper Dragonflies - Swingin' Single
This one is really cute too, with that older feminine-ish new wave sound that once was, and I sort of miss. If the first track isn't really doing it for you, you need to give the second track a shot, its really really good. Like, next VDay mixtape good.

Naomi Wachira - Beautifully Human
Now for some folk reggae, in all of its calmer, and "everything is gonna be alright" glory. I am going to need to dig further into her music.

Cousin Silas - Quiet Afternoons
And now to a really long relaxing ambient post-rockish drone of soft pads and melodies unfurling at the speed that flowers bloom, to get you into a nice soft meditative state.

Cosmonauts Day - It Got Them
And finishing the whole thing out, and bringing you back up for the day ahead, here is a nice prog-metal, post-rock jam out with just enough creepy to make it really fun.

My Review:
This one is a good relaxing Soundscape/IDM album, with a ton of emotional growth in the songs. The description says some songs "are worlds unto themselves, inviting the listener to explore new vistas emerging from sonic fog", and I'd be inclined to agree.

I laid back and listened to this one this morning while coming to terms with being awake. It was a nice way to be peaceful. The artists description was this;

Eric Pietras is a scientist, photographer and musician from the San Francisco Bay Area. He also presents a weekly ambient/experimental internet radio show entitled 'Sounds In The Dark' at BFF.fm. 

Sounds like my new best friend.

My Review:
For every Yoga, Meditation, or sleep session you need to start, there is now Moby, coming to save the day and be a badass vegan bald little person with a surprisingly deep voice.

Each of these separate long ambient pieces runs a different time, so you can pick the one that fits the time you have to use meditating or getting into childs pose (that shit is comfy af).

Anyway, Hats off to Moby for still doing cool shit after like 20 years.

New York NY— "Slant Rhymes and Eye Rhymes", the latest single from Brooklyn based folk punk act Out of System Transfer, proves that oft-repeated saw that traveling the road changes you.
The band, mostly native New Yorkers, have spent a substantial amount of time over the past several months on the road supporting their debut EP “Same Rat Different Hat”,  tightening their live show, and building a dedicated following throughout the Northeast.
On one such trip the band spent a day at Hiwatts Studio in Providence, RI and recorded 3 new tracks, which they will be releasing over the next few months as free downloads.
"Slant Rhymes," the first release, is a marked departure for the band, explains front man Jesse Sternberg: “I love geography in songs. We have a whole bunch of songs about New York City, and this was my shot at getting some of the rest of the country in the mix. It's an unusually personal and unusually optimistic and non-angry song, for me.”
The song—with lyrics like “Let’s start a song, on this side of the Verrazano, get the tune down by the other side,” tells a particularly personal but relatable story for the band--but more broadly is about the joy of art and music. “Traveling can inspire songwriting, songwriting can lead to touring, and so on in a creative virtuous cycle. Mostly it's about how lucky and excited I feel to have the chance to travel and play music with such a great group of musicians and friends,” explains Sternberg.
You can see them tonight at Palisades in Brooklyn with Pat the Bunny, Brook Pridemore, and Prewar Yardsale, following which they’ll be living out this song as they hit the road again over the weekend.

This one is really fun. They used a dancer (Twerk Queen Louise), hooked sensors to her hips, thighs, and butt, and let her bounce out all of the beats and rhythms into a sampler. Afterward, they worked all of them together into a dance track. Novel usage, and dat booty makes some music.

Waves - The Sounds Around Him

My Review:
I got an email during some dead time that I had been thinking about the perfect time to share.

You posted some of my music before and I really appreciated it!  I have recently posted a new album.  Take a look if you are interested.

Seems like this is a pretty great time. Waves was one of the first artists to send me anything for Jumbly, and has my full support as an artist. I enjoy the ambient, soundscape qualities of the first album, and the new one does not disappoint either. It shows his growth.




The best descriptions I could give, is that this has a droning, looping, warped quality that incorporates out of the ordinary sampling in order to make something that builds on the beats and melodies. I'm looking out to see what other music will be coming along from Waves, because it sure does feel right to have on a calm morning like today.

Nine Inch Nails - Ghosts I

My Review:
I'm pretty much sure that anyone who would be stopping by my site would have already had this release, but just to be sure, I figure I'll share.

About a year before the time that "The Slip" was released, Trent Reznor had gone somewhat silent while in the studio on an experiment with some collaborators. What came out of that experiment was this boxed set. It was just around the time of the "pay-as-you-will" experiments from radiohead and so forth, and long before Reznor went crawling back to the big record labels instead of really doing something revolutionary.

This is the first disk out of a set of 3 disks, so if you love it, spend the 5 dollars to get the full set. There is artwork that comes with the pack, and you aren't really being mislead, the free download is a good quality one.

This album is a gigantic step away from the rest of the Nine Inch Nails discography or radio hits. There are no lyrics except for humming or singing at any point during the full 3 CD set. They are all built like the scores to some non-existant film, and range in emotion and composition from rage filled industrial rock, to ambient pieces that sound nearly meditative.

Neuro Trash - This Apocalypse Was Less Fun Than We Thought It Would Be

My Review:

After they had destroyed all the humans, the robots felt terribly alone

That quote is all to be said about this album by the band. As I've recently been doing a crap job of keeping up with singles posts and submitted albums for artists, this one slipped through the cracks for a while. I'm just now getting back to it, and realizing that I needed a good softer folky album to post on here. I wrote a whole review for this, and can't find it, which pisses me off.

The range of instruments used is very impressive, especially since I can't remember the last time I heard someone play a saw. The sound of this overall its a somber, melodic album that works great for a relaxing few minutes of your day, or trying to sit in that little gray corner of your mind for a while.

Neuro Trash - This Apocalypse Was Less Fun Than We Thought It Would Be

The melodies in this one are so hypnotizing to me, but I can feel a mental drive toward digital music after listening to it for a while. I guess it means I should listen to their earlier EP, which will balance it all out. You might want to as well, so here it is.

He also has a blank facebook page, and an empty twitter account. Not sure about much more on this album. It was enjoyable, but I don't know why he doesn't keep social if he made all these accounts.

My Review:
Think about waves at moonlight. Think about alleyways in the crisp dark of an autumn night, with steam rising from vents and floating off to die in the atmosphere. Think about the asphalt spilling by beneath the beams of your headlights as you drive off to another minor chapter of your life.

This music can bring you that. It has this sound reminiscent of the Cocteau Twins (on a serious depression streak) or a softer, more droning track from Camille, and maybe even just a little bit lke some kind of experimental project by Dido. Its beautiful, and soft, and sort of sad, in an acceptant way, like the singer knows there isn't anything to do about it, but sing about how she feels.

This one is only 5 tracks long, but it unfurls itself to you so wonderfully, that I can't help but be happy for the whole thing just as it is.

My Review:
I asked a while back for some friends to do a couple reviews of music that they really enjoyed. I've decided that now might be an interesting time to start going through them. Starting out is a review from a close friend of mine whose a synesthetic. Here is her review.

Tagged as “Experimental, ambient, post-rock, shoegaze” on Bandcamp, MMIX by the German band Líam manages to hit all of those points beautifully. I wasn’t sure what to expect from the album since I had never heard the band before, but I was in a post-rock kind of mood and it made me feel like a junkie getting my fix.  Due to the synesthesia, I’m going to have to describe this music mostly in visuals because that’s the easiest way for me to verbalize it.

MMIX oscillates between hard, guitar-diven rock and softer ambient and experimental sounds. The softer music I would describe as pleochroic, stealing the gemologists’ term for a color change that occurs with a shift of light. It’s a little like focusing a camera; overall, the music looks a certain colour and texture, muted greys, soft greens and blues and the occasional lavender, with the smoky nature that only post-rock seems to do well. However, as I focus my ear on a particular instrument, the focus shifts and music changes from a veiled scene to a brilliant shade of orange or blue, with staccato textures I ignored on the highest level. These colours appear against the mist of the greater view, but at a much higher altitude.

In their more vibrant moments, Líam achieves a coherence of purpose among it’s individual sounds, with slightly varying hues moving together and forming a concrete directional movement. Much like watching a turbid spray of water twisting and advancing in minimal gravity, but lit from within with coloured light. In these moments the background, the outer edge of the music, my peripheral musical vision, is not black as it is in most songs, but a deep red or orange still within the visible spectrum.

When Líam returns from their ignition they tend to do so in a void, with focused execution that allows an individual sound to vibrate and move as a lit wavelength, moving in impossible trajectories but always reshaping to an original form. The beautiful lifts and drops of Líam’s music make it easy to simply close your eyes and listen only, doing nothing but appreciating the soundscapes this band is able to produce.

 Well I think that definitely does this justice. I hope you enjoy, and Thank you Ned for sharing some good post rock.

New Dehli FM - Daylight confusion

My Review:
A great album of Illbient, a darker, more triphoppy ambient techno. If you put "Music is for children" (from Boards of Canada), and "i care because you do" (from Aphex Twin) in a mix with this, you'd hardly know which was which. I'm really enjoying it, though I feel like it needs more quirk in places to keep it from getting too vanilla.

 New Dehli FM is an artist from Stuttgart in 2001, made by Sandro Böge. He has some really interesting ideas on IDM and what it should represent. Apparently he has some really awesome live sets.

My Review:

I've seen DJ Spooky perform twice, both times being an artistic performance. He was once known for his DJ work, but these days he's moved to poetry, artistic sound pieces, and collaborations with many various persons throughout the art world.

This album is a very arty piece. Recordings were made in the arctic, and made into these very intricate soundscape pieces that are very much worth enjoying, especially if you are a fan of the more arty ambient music.

I wont waste your time, you'll either love or hate this, so I'll leave it up to you to figure out which.

DJ Spooky - Of Water and Ice

This is a really interesting tune, with a really interesting backstory. Basically there was a musician long ago in the UK I believe, who wrote this song, and aeons later, it became a public domain track with little interest.

A contest was put on, with the intention of letting new artists interested in public domain, do covers and remakes of these songs to bring them into the 21st century. This was one of the most noteworthy tracks. They are out of Brooklyn, and they are working on a new album right now.

This time he's releasing a couple of his own mixes. I picked this one especially because of the tech house influences, and because I enjoyed it.

Lana Del Rey - Born To Die (The Anonymous DJ's Born To Dance Remix)

He also had an original track on there as well. Its pretty awesome. An even more tech house/electro track. I've enjoyed both, and I'm glad to see him moving more toward making his own tracks here and there.

TheAnonymousDJ - Low Frequencies (Original Mix)

On the other end of the techno spectrum today is some Felix Da Housecat. He did a bunch of electropop and electroclash back in the past 10 years or so, and its worth looking more into him, for being all trashy and magically dancey. This song is all about manly men and penis size, as explained by a catty drag queen. Hope you enjoy.

My Review:
I had no idea that the label this was posted under had closed down. I'm really sad to see that. I've had this album for almost 8 years, and I've listened to it for so long that it feels like a glass of milk & honey for my ears, smooth, and calming, settling me in so nicely. It works really well as a sleeping album too.

So first I'll talk about what I know about the musician. His name is Axel Bergk. He lives in Hanover Germany. He started making music and made his own collaborative label, Stadtgruen. He was very prolific from 2004 until around 2008, and then I'm not quite sure what happened. I had been in contact with him at one point, and he gave me the chance to use some of his music in an early prototype of a flash game that my team was working on. He was very generous, and I am forever appreciative for it.

The album itself is all based around the idea of a port, and a conputer. The mixture of digital clicks and beeps, with the ambience of a somewhat sparse industrial setting makes for a pretty great minimalist album, falling somewhere between a droning ambient, and the most minimalist of microhouse. I've loved it for years.

Bootie RIO doing what they do. Reminding me of how much good mashup work comes up all over the world every day.  Is it just me, or are gorrilaz getting seriously overplayed these days? I only see that from their first album though, and a pinch of their second. I wonder what that says about their album quality onward.

Hot Mouth (feat. Chris James) - Totally Worth It (Peacetreaty Remix)

Dancehall electro with a big pop-house vibe. I love good dancey techno, especially when I get to keep the track to play whenever I want. Dancing time in the kitchen.

Dreampop, Ambient Post-rock, Ambient techno. Somewhere in all of those is this short album. It has a sound that makes me wish there were some very soft, raw lyrics in an iron & wine style somewhere along the line.

Dark techno is what I'd like to find a lot more of. Like, REALLY dark. This one is well on its way there. It has these nice buildups, that slip back into a murky subdued sound of ominous ambient. I was enjoying the plays on build and release that is common in techno. Sadly its only available on heere as a Lo-fi format.




Apparently this album was even reviewed in Wired back when it came out. Good on ya.

This is his 4th release, and he's getting better and rougher every time. This one is right on the edge of EBM, and i really wish there was a vocalist growling out some great lyrics across the top of this, I dunno, something about hell and bondage or something. Either way, its dark and gritty.

This one is some nice hip-hop beats, edging on horrorcore beats. An interesting instrumental album with a really dark edge to it, biting horror scores and dark ambience from horror, only to hack them up and loop them into the beats. This is the most chill of the posts today. It comes off like the little brother of "Genocide Memoria" from LFO Demon.

Graffiti Mechanism, a little more than the normal.

My Review:
In 2011, my life had gone sideways on me. Some friends were helping to pull me out of a lull that had and has somewhat persisted since mid 2010, like a cloud over and through my life. During a part of that, I started to find my artist legs once again, and began to build back some of my joys and motivations. I was playing through a lot of music I had missed out on during a stint where I had been mentally vacant, and had saved a folder for a day when I needed to focus on something.

And that is how I found Graffiti Mechanism.

This guy is named Adam Crammond. He runs, or has a hand in running a netlabel called Proc-rec, I believe it started up in 2007. He has released so much work, that I still find new pieces of his.

Today will be special because I'm showcasing 4 of them, showing a progression I noticed.

Graffiti Mechanism - Blotter Beats


The first one I'll post as these are all in chronological order. This isn't just acid in the way it's often heard. He brings in a background in ambient and noise.

The drug references seem to be a sign of where he intends for you to go with his music, and that he wants to make you dance a little while you're there. It seems to cycle back on itself, always gaining complexity as it reloops, and the sound seems to pick up more muddled layers while others fade inward below. The use of Lo-fi sounds as a tool instead of an issue with equipment is so interesting a choice to me, and it really works for him.

Graffiti Mechanism - The Fabric Of Existance

A step from acid in some ways, but keeping it going as the lifeblood of the tracks in many ways. This shows an evolution more from the kind of music made to dance the night away on drugs, to something showing a growth and a maturity. It is where I start to pick up on what I called Acid-daze, the sound that seems to be created for you to sit in a dark space and contemplate all layers of your life on hallucinogens.

Graffiti Mechanism - Fueled By Emotion

The first album I heard. This is the point where he really stepped into this meditative acid-daze sort of sound. I looked beck through everything of his I could find, and nothing else seems to capture this sound that he suddenly grasped with both hands and began knitting into a wonderful dreamscape.

I'd rate this one the highest of all of them if I were to be the type to rate albums. I can honestly say that something about this album helped me to find and heal some small part of my soul, although i cannot quantify that in any way. I can still listen to this on repeat for a whole day without even a trace of regret.

Graffiti Mechanism - Synesthesia

The shortest of the albums, an EP by any standard, even if the tracks are 7+ minutes each. This compounds on the top of the "Fueled By Emotion" set, adding a more clear and meditative approach to the sound he is exploring.  If he continues down this path, I do wonder what he is going to incorporate into it next.

Either way, Hats off to Graffiti Mechanism.

LFO Demon - Genocide Memoria

My Review:
LFO Demon (Also known as Mental Hell) is a jungle / gabber musician for anything I have heard BUT this album. Usually when a musician jumps genre after releasing only one genre for their whole catalogue, you expect it to suck big time or feel horribly fake and forced, but this one is something else.

This is an album that works simultaneously putting two faces out to the listener; a soft, groove based Chillout album, and a dark, brooding soundscape that always edges on the precipice of an ominous event. Maybe this album WAS forced, which would explain that feeling like you're listening to something huge, dark, and malicous underneath a shiny exterior and a smile.

This album was released on the C8 netlabel collective back in 2004, and was one of the very few softer albums to be on that site at the time. Only a few other slow albums ever showed up on there, and I believe that the label is now defunct, but the site is still up.

Anyhow, this is a full length album, with a playing time of an hour. The sounds and approaches toward the grooves on every track are different, with elements of jazz rock, IDM, jungle, dub reggae, and a couple industrial moments. I've been listening to this one since 2005, and I still put it on for a road trip or a writing session.

My Review:

The 26 year old Romanian dude making this music definitely know how to play around with his breaks, creatively and emotively. I would say that its breakcore, but it really isn’t through & through. It's kind of like a film or game score. Rainy day candlelight sort of feel to it.

It's really strange sad and beautiful together. I definitely love this one.

I just realized after following them for years, that Sociopath Records was a Taiwanese record label. One more reason to go to Taiwan, ladyboys be damned.
