My Review:
So I probably downloaded this album back in 2014 or 2015. I am now at the point that I am reviewing it. Not because it was bad, just because I don't think I was ready for it yet. Really mellow, with a melding of electronics, jazz, and glitch, in a way that reflects a melody that I can't help but to really love now that I've spent my time in New Orleans and had the jazz seep into my life.

That being said, this is a more relaxed, atmospheric album, that plays in areas more like a demanding stage piece. I really enjoy putting it on for the night and having some work to get finished while it plays, so I can perk up and dance about a little when it behooves me.

So yeah, hope you like a weirdly drippy/glitchy russian electro-jazz-trip-pop album. I'm gonna listen again now.

My Review:
This is an album I have had pretty much since it was released, yet always seem to forget to post. The funny part about that is that I listen to the album probably once every other month or more.

If you like Team Sleep, The Postal Service, and the like, then you should look at this one. It has a more prominent presentation than most bedroom pop, with its clear, well broadcast vocals, it still keeps a lot of that softer, more private sound.

The music is all made by a single man, Juan Carlos Padilla, who lives in Mexico. His work as TTB is a pretty fresh and vibrant sound, though he's also working in another project called Reactions.

This is a really interesting tune, with a really interesting backstory. Basically there was a musician long ago in the UK I believe, who wrote this song, and aeons later, it became a public domain track with little interest.

A contest was put on, with the intention of letting new artists interested in public domain, do covers and remakes of these songs to bring them into the 21st century. This was one of the most noteworthy tracks. They are out of Brooklyn, and they are working on a new album right now.

This time he's releasing a couple of his own mixes. I picked this one especially because of the tech house influences, and because I enjoyed it.

Lana Del Rey - Born To Die (The Anonymous DJ's Born To Dance Remix)

He also had an original track on there as well. Its pretty awesome. An even more tech house/electro track. I've enjoyed both, and I'm glad to see him moving more toward making his own tracks here and there.

TheAnonymousDJ - Low Frequencies (Original Mix)

On the other end of the techno spectrum today is some Felix Da Housecat. He did a bunch of electropop and electroclash back in the past 10 years or so, and its worth looking more into him, for being all trashy and magically dancey. This song is all about manly men and penis size, as explained by a catty drag queen. Hope you enjoy.

My Review:
One day, back in 2003, I'm sitting in a bar watching a noise show and drinking with a girl I had a crush on, when this guy I had started to make friends with walks in with a cardboard box filled with cds under his arm. He's Dan. He started a record label, and some random band from japan had signed to release their first album with him. It was for sale at $10 apiece, and this was what it looked like.

On An Ocean Amp? What? Well, I wanted to support Dan, and I'm all about a random band with an interesting album cover. Its like an adventure in a disc, you never know if it'll be amazing, or shit.

So when I played it on the ride back home, I was completely unsure what I was listening to. Its like an experimental electropop band with a cutesy japanese girl voice over the whole thing. Its like childhood packaged into synths.

Years later in college I emailed their website (now defunct), and got an email back later in the day. The guy in the duo, Mike McGuire, was super friendly and we ended up chatting for a few years. He sent me this album before it was done, as well as his own solo album, which I hope I can post here later on.

Well the band broke up pretty much as this album was being finished up, and what he said was enough for a 2 disc album ended up as this, a great album of strange Japanese influenced IDM/Electropop with a very good spread of tunes. I wonder how he is doing, and if either he, or Kaori are doing any new music projects. Rest assured, I'll let you know the moment that I find out.

Guizado - Calavera

My Review:

This album is so good. The way all the instrumentation comes together seems so fluid and effortless. Listening to this, I hear Kula Shaker, Black Moth Super Rainbow, Audioslave, Beck, Franz Ferdinand, and a bunch of other psych and indie rock blended with brass instruments and a heavy groove. SO MANY STYLES, and they really pull it off.

I've searched and tried hard to figure out any info that I can, but I know little about this band aside from the fact that they made this album and its awesome.

Guizado is the name of the trumpet player and beat programmer. So the band is kind of like Santana, in that Senor Guizado is the star, working with collaborators throughout the album. He is the premier trumpet player of Sao Paolo right now. His website is dead, but hopefully he's still making kickass music in Brazil.
