Burning of I - Nowhere is a Destination

Band / Artist: Burning of I
Year: 2013
Genre: Prog Metal, Death Metal, Metal

My Review:
I don't know much about them, and i was trying to do some quick searches, but not getting very far. I do know that they are on murder gore records, which you can visit here (http://murdergorerecords.weebly.com/releases.html), but really, they are worth it and you should just enjoy some decent metal.

An album with track names like these makes me think of fear factory, or at least I feel it should have elements of their digital sound. They do not, but that by no means should discount them as a solid Prog-metal band. They have softer, acoustic-electric parts that you would hear in newer Tool albums. Their sound is that of a vibrant, lamb of god style when on the harder parts of songs. There is about a 90/10 split between softer parts and the harder,.. actually, I can't describe this any better. I like it quite a lot. Go download it....

Also, to the fat dude sitting next to me on the plane who cannot refrain from wiggling in his seat the whole flight, thanks for irritating me for an hour and a half, dick.

Fissunix - Heavy Metal Mashups Vol. 2 “Louder Than Hell Mix”

Band / Artist: Various Artists, Fissunix
Year: 2012
Genre: Metal, Mashup

My Review:
So I'm back again with something to break out of the chill and sad music that I seem to have been picking for the past few weeks. I guess I'm doing a decent job of shaking my blues, but Heavy Metal mashup tracks will definitely help with that.

This is a compilation, or a mixtape, depending on which you want. I like hearing the original tracks separately a lot of the time, so I have my collection. I love that first track. It amuses me to no end, and also, I can totally rock to it while laughing. Heres the tracklist, I'll let you figure out what songs are mashed for each one.

Fissunix & DJ Schmolli – HairBangers
Dan Mei – Last Ride Of The New Shit
Mad Mix Mustang – 2 Minutes To The Middle Of The Night
Loo & Placido – Antisocial Pigs
Bassnectar Remix – Seek and Destroy
Dj Schmolli – Cold As Superbeast Prometheus
Wax Audio – South Of The Grapevine
Loo & Placido – Black Sab System
Wax Audio – Master Of Doin’ It
DJ Morgoth – Ace Of Spades Feels Good
Dj Schmolli – Rock Of Ages
Dan Mei – Rolling In The Fire And Flames
Tinylightsbelow – Psychosocial Baby
Fissunix – Birth of the Cannibal
Dan Mei – Coat Of Arms Of E.T.
Fissunix – Over wasted years
Fissunix – Grid it up
Wax Audio – Chemical Diver
Dj Schmolli – Cold As Superbeast Prometheus

So I will say that I am not a big fan of every track, some of it is pretty take-it-or-leave-it, but I'm still happy getting some fun metal mashups, people don't mash metal songs nearly enough. If you like any specific track, go check out that artist, because I'll bet you can find some more by them that you enjoy.

Basick Sampler

Band / Artist: CHIMP SPANNER, , MONUMENTS, SKYHARBOR, UNEVEN STRUCTURE, 7 HORNS 7 EYES, BLOTTED SCIENCE, ION DISSONANCE, THE ARUSHA ACCORD, ALIASES, VISIONS, THE ALGORITHM
Year: 2012
Genre: Metal, Nu Metal, Metalcore, Death Metal

My Review:
Metal from a ton of bands on the Basick label.  Basick is a label out of London, with a lot of their bands being ones that experiment with the digital/analog world of metal. in their own words they are "A fiercely progressive record label". Here is their site.
http://www.basickrecords.com/

..And their facebook page
https://www.facebook.com/basickrecords

I'm hit or miss for samplers, but with metal it always seems to work well, since often enough a metal band only really has one or two sounds that they can really create. The mixes tend to lend themselves to a lot of variation in the sound.

Either way, there is a lot of pretty good metal bands here who you might want to look into if you like what you hear.

Stay frosty.

Free Singles - Soul Are, Raw Music International, Sportbilly Krsi Embargo, Ellie Goulding, Bassnectar

Soul Are - Southern Jakarta Hardcore

Indonesian METTTTTTTTTAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL. This one has a heavy garage quality, but it reminds me a lot of Killing Joke and early Fear Factory, or maybe a live show from fear factory. They've been together since 2000. Totally worth looking into, I know that I will be. Heres their facebook.

https://www.facebook.com/soulare/info

LaFam (Raw Music International) - Aduwa (ft. Chiness)

African soulful downtempo. This has a lot of interesting soundscapes in it. There is just a bit of the old school trance, with kenyan rappity ripping across the soft singing, and throat chanting. Soft and pleasant, a great way to relax for a minute before the next track coming up.

Sportbilly Krsi Embargo - Lemeka

I really like this song. It has that heavy guitar tuning that you used to hear from Korn, and the song itself is an amalgam of balkan and funk. So good.

So far I haven't found much about the band, but if I do, you can imagine that I might share it.

Halloween Town - Easy Lover

I'm loving all the songs so far on this collection. This reminds me of the old post on here from lavalier. Apparently it is a jam band made up of members of a couple different groups, including Louis XIV , Transfer, 12 Volt Sex, The Red Romance, Ambulance LTD, and The Killers. Here's their bio on Ryan Pardy's website.

..and if you enjoyed that track, here are two more. Your Christmas Song and A Faster Bullet.

Ellie Goulding - High For This
You are about to listen to a gorgeous rendition from the exquisitely talented English singer Ellie Goulding, covering The Weeknd’s ‘High For This’. With the help of Chiddy Bang producer Xaphoon Jones, the two lay a memorable cover from one of the most buzzed hip/hop group of the last 12 months.

This is a really chill song, with just enough glitch on the vocals to make it feel interesting. I could see a song like this being a big pop song, except its just too soft and not bouncy enough to make a pop single. It'd be more like one of the songs that yo hear on the album after you buy it, and then you end up liking it mroe than anything else on there. I do really like it though, it makes me think of Aliyah when she started to step out onto her own.

I'm working through this mixtape that just crossed the emails yesterday.  Bassnectar is always good for a little bit of wub, though this is a lot older than his Wub-works. Here's some of his information that came with this.
I’ve been wanting to re-release this for a long time…

This was a mixtape I recorded in one take on four CDJs back in 1999, summarizing my love for thick, heavy, hypnotic downtempo music: ethereal melodies, weird loops, funky acid jazz, trip-hop, and everything left field of center.
Musically, it’s a collection of songs which are very special to me...
It feels a lot like something from Bonobo, and has a little bit of an old Cujo track. It even feels a little like a slacker riffing off of Buddha Bar, and coming out with something so much better.

January! Free singles!

2013. Man.. WHY did I have to start you out by throwing up? It was like a nice send-off from 2012, reminding me once again, to suck it. Oh well. Here's some singles to pass the day. May they greatly please you, and not cause you to vomit.

Para Halu - Summer Solstice Mix 2011 (DJ set)

This came out a year and a half ago, but in my defense, I had no idea who this guy was till a little while ago. It's a good one for a run or some working music. I guess this would be fitting for your resolutions of getting thinner, stronger, or whatever.

Dj Lobsterdust - One More Diggity (Blackstreet vs. Maroon 5 vs.Gorillaz)

Bootie RIO doing what they do. Reminding me of how much good mashup work comes up all over the world every day.  Is it just me, or are gorrilaz getting seriously overplayed these days? I only see that from their first album though, and a pinch of their second. I wonder what that says about their album quality onward.

Hot Mouth (feat. Chris James) - Totally Worth It (Peacetreaty Remix)

Dancehall electro with a big pop-house vibe. I love good dancey techno, especially when I get to keep the track to play whenever I want. Dancing time in the kitchen.

Waves - Waves EP

Dreampop, Ambient Post-rock, Ambient techno. Somewhere in all of those is this short album. It has a sound that makes me wish there were some very soft, raw lyrics in an iron & wine style somewhere along the line.

And my last thing of today

Acrassicauda - Garden Of Stones

So they are good hard metal from Baghdad. They released this single as a promo for their whole album, and movie. I tried linking the video below, but in case it doesn't work, here's the site link.

Barnum - Devices

Band/Artist: Barnum
Year: 2012
Genre: Metal, Nu Metal, Industrial
My Review:
Do you like METAL? Good. Then check out this band from Costa Rica that my friend Diego from college started up. Diego works as vocalist, and maybe guitarist (EDIT: He's just vocalist. His buddy Frank Mayorga
is the guitarist, and started the band). He's an awesome guy though, and I'm glad to hear he has something going on. here's their facebook page. I haven't seen any other pages from them yet.

https://www.facebook.com/barnumband

Some nicely fleshed sound coming out of those speakers. I'd say its one part heavy metal, one part industrial, and served over some frosty Nu Metal in a cold mug. It isn't the longest EP I've ever heard, but the band is apparently fairly new, so I'd guess they are hoping to release a larger album in the near future. I know I'm looking forward to it.
Give 'er a listen.
