Deadfile - Applied Oneironautics

Band / Artist: Deadfile
Year: 2012
Genre: Post-Rock, Film Score, Instrumental

My Review:
Hey. Are you a dreamer?

I'm back with another Deadfile album. Another sadcore, softy album, filled with keys, violins, and many an analogue wondermaker. This one catches me more than the first one I posted here, with more clarified compositions and melodies.

If I could say one thing about their music, it'd be that I wish there were more lyrical parts. That is pretty much a minimal issue with this album, as it plays with a striking similarity to certain types of film score, as well as reminding me of some old piano compositions i've heard in the past. The sampling layers in really well for most tracks, and I feel like I'd keep this over the first one I posted.

Give it an hour of your time. It was worth it for me.

Free Studio Givaway: SALT Motion Picture Soundtrack

Band / Artist:James Newton Howard
Year: 2010
Genre: Film Score, Soundtrack

My Review:
SO excited that I could get to do this, especially since the blog still hasn't hit its 1 year mark yet. I've been chatting with some really interesting people over the course of the last two months, and I wanted to make some big things happen on this blog as much as possible.

One group I ended up in touch with was a pretty huge studio name, Remote Control Studios. They gave me a starter to see how well the attention I'd get from it was. LO AND BEHOLD, that starter is from James Newton Howard, who helped score The Dark Knight, The Hunger Games, Waterworld.. I'm very humbled and impressed. So what exactly would they give me? It all ties back to that lovely Angelina Jolie. Here's the simple IMDB page.

This is a spy thriller through and through, with lots of action sequences, and the score reflects that. Its a mix of techno and orchestral pieces, that I really thought was under-appreciated by a lot of people.

So the hope is that enough people come through the site that the recording studio gets attention for giving away a soundtrack from a few years ago, and they in turn, spread my blog to other studios along with a good word. If that happens, who knows what kinds of artists might start giving away free music here! I'm so freaking excited I can't even begin to tell you.

So without any further bantering, I hope that you LOVE this one enough to share it with your friends.

Andrew Lagowski, Hellscion, NovA17

Band / Artist: Andrew Lagowski, Hellscion, NovA17
Year: 1995, 2012, 2012
Genre: Techno, Industrial, Hardcore Techno, Trip Hop, Breaks, Electro, Dark, Ambient, Dark Ambient, Film Score, IDM

My Review:
So I had hoped to have a really special exclusive to offer today, but that didn't really come together like I was hoping. BUT I WAS PREPARED. Instead I'm serving up 3 different flavors of dark electronic goodness.

Andrew Lagowski

Dark techno is what I'd like to find a lot more of. Like, REALLY dark. This one is well on its way there. It has these nice buildups, that slip back into a murky subdued sound of ominous ambient. I was enjoying the plays on build and release that is common in techno. Sadly its only available on heere as a Lo-fi format.

Apparently this album was even reviewed in Wired back when it came out. Good on ya.

Hellscion

This is his 4th release, and he's getting better and rougher every time. This one is right on the edge of EBM, and i really wish there was a vocalist growling out some great lyrics across the top of this, I dunno, something about hell and bondage or something. Either way, its dark and gritty.

Hellscion - Burning Bridges

NovA17

This one is some nice hip-hop beats, edging on horrorcore beats. An interesting instrumental album with a really dark edge to it, biting horror scores and dark ambience from horror, only to hack them up and loop them into the beats. This is the most chill of the posts today. It comes off like the little brother of "Genocide Memoria" from LFO Demon.

NovA17 - FFUNS [darkhiphop instrumental]

Alright. Enjoy another night of fright and horror.
