My Review:
Okay, so after years of seeing this band come up in connection with others I was listening to, like Iron & Wine or Wilco, I finally saw this sampler and decided to give them a listen. Its GOOD, but I don't think its quite my cup of tea.

That being said, I know it is quality music, and I know that it carries a lot that people would enjoy, so I wanted to share this short sampler album with you all. If you enjoy this country indie sound, then love this and give them support.

Alright, back to cleaning house in the middle of the frozen night. I've got a walls worth of drywall to remove.

Trap, Bass, House. An odd, downtempo version of chopped & screwed remixes. 3 tracks.
Neat stuff. Its like Trip-hoppy Trap, Heh, Trip-Trap.

kNIFE - DieNasty
Rap. It's mean, with some nice beats running back behind it. I like those beats against that style of vocals.

My Review:
I stumbled across this album while lurking on forums, and listened through it for hours. Majorka is Chris Petry “Petry”on Guitar, Bass, Synth, Vocals, and some Mastering, and Blake Hill “Vulgaris” Vulgaris on Drums and Mastering. I didn't know they were in Beaufort SC, but I'm sad that I never met them while I was in Savannah.

So this is how they describe themselves. 

Majorka is a dark psychedelic band from Beaufort, South Carolina, made up with atmospheric tones and deep lyrics.

I have been loving this album, it was humble and melodic. If I'm gonna try to describe it, I'd say it is reminiscent of the softer parts of the latest 2 Tool albums, as well as a bit of the acoustic, folk sound that I've shared in things like Connor Bird's album, Where Winter Hides. Its a creative mix, and I wholly support you supporting them if you like this, by going to their website a chipping them a buck or two, or buying the physical signed cd.

I posted the B-sides for Love & War a good while back, but then I saw this the other day and thought it might be time to revisit Mr. Garrels..

Its a very extravagant sort of folk/ndie. I don't really know what else to call it. At one of his shows he had a short talk about it, and he said "I'm not sure what to call myself...so I say folk".

This time around, the album is full length, and the music is more their own. Its bluegrass and indie folk, but still slips in and out of the rockabilly and surf rock sounds for tracks here and there. If you like any dancey country stuffs, or just have a thing for acoustic instruments and retro sound, this might be awesome for you. I danced in the car to it my whole drive.

Mad Tea Party - Found A Reason

My Review:
There was a band back in the 90s called Neutral Milk Hotel (NMH) that made the album “In An Aeroplane Over the Sea ” in 1998. It was a sleeper hit with a fair cult following, and if ever you mention this band not being great in the presence of one of the followers, they'll call you a fool and a plebeian with no taste for music, or maybe threaten to kill you. (I'm moderately a fan, but I like other stuff far more.)

This album pays homage to it in the way that Dangermouse's Gray Album pays homage to Jay-Z and the Beatles. That, or it just bastardizes it over some hiphop. Personally I like it a lot more than the Gray Album, because the mix incorporates the vocals from the original songs throughout the mash, which always irked me about Dangermouse's work. Parts of it were pretty interesting, whereas a couple other parts fell a bit flat, which mostly depended on the rap track being used in each song.

So since there is a really intense love-or-hate thing going on around NMH and their music, it seems that this album is equally loved or hated so here are two reviews, one way, and the other.

Psychosis is another of the bastard pop musicians out there, but he hasn't done a whole lot yet. His first album is listed from here as well, but I didn't much care for it. Gotta start somewhere though, right?

This is some really good hipsterish chillout by a guy named Collin Ward. He's unsigned, and works at a pizza place apparently. I really dig what he's working on, and hope that he gets some attention for what he's got going on. Check out his Facebook page here.

My Review:
A femme indie band from the grunge hayday. I've kept this one for the lightheartedness of the vocals, its a city driving favorite. The band was around in Canada for about 7 years, never really hitting it big, They are back around and make stuff now, after a reunion in 2010. Turns out that they ar the ones that originally spawned that whole "Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World" thing with a song about him that they wrote.

The songs are about pet worms, and cats, and other silly fluff. Come to think of it, shouldn't any album with the "Peanuts" font be about silly fluff?

Imagine Animal Collective, with clearer talent and rhythm. They follow the same tribal beat sort of layout, but mix their songs with a little cleaner vocals. I find myself listening to this EP more often than any of my Animal Collective albums these days.
