Judah & the Lion - Judah & the Lion

Band / Artist: Judah & the Lion
Year: 2017
Genre: Indie Folk, Indie Dance, Folk Pop

My Review:
This has been on steady rotation in the car the last 2 weeks. I've been enjoying the sort of nostalgic southernality of it, in this sense of all the pleasant and good things of the south, but from a more fresh and welcoming perspective than the south seems to have to many.

Its cool how they mix fiddle and banjo and acoustic guitar with drum machine and synthesizer in an odd bluegrass/folk/pop sort of medley. It flows far better than you'd expect at first glance.

Here is their website.

These guys are out of Nashville, TN, which should surprise nobody. I really appreciate their sound. It reminds me of driving in the coastal area of Georgia with my windows down, smelling the marsh air in the sunshine.

Racing Glaciers - EP

Band / Artist: Racing Glaciers
Year: 2012
Genre: Folk Pop, Indie Alternative

My Review:
I love that front cover.

Its 7 tracks long, and it has a lot of emotion, and quite a bit of tambourine. Its really pleasant, with parts of it sound that vaguely remind me of old U2, but not really, and an overall sound that brings me to question whether it is folky indie, indie alternative, alternative pop, folky pop.. I don't quite know.

The band hails from Macclesfield, UK. They are just starting out, which I think impresses me more. Here is their facebook.

So my favorite track might be Little River. What track do you like best?

AAAHHCHESTRA - Braaahhlitz Compilation

Band / Artist: AAAHHCHESTRA
Year: 2013
Genre: Folk Pop, Indie Rock, Soft Rock

My Review:
One of those albums that could be noise, or bad spoken word, or some amazingly good acoustic pieces. You hold your breath, turn it on, and... its good!

AAAHHCHESTRA is a group project from AAAHH Records. Their link is right here.

This has a lot of elements of older music, and a deep reaching sort of heartfelt sound throughout pretty much all the songs. The uses of flute, whistling, tambourine, light synth, horns, and both male and female vocalists help the guitars and drums really flesh out great. The last track is pretty bleh, but it is meant to be silly anyhow.

3 days left - Josh Garrels Megapack

Band / Artist: Josh Garrels
Year: 2006, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2012
Genre: Breakbeat, Folk Pop, Jazz Rock, Modern Classical, Indie

My Review:
I posted the B-sides for Love & War a good while back, but then I saw this the other day and thought it might be time to revisit Mr. Garrels..

Its a very extravagant sort of folk/ndie. I don't really know what else to call it. At one of his shows he had a short talk about it, and he said "I'm not sure what to call myself...so I say folk".

SO the point of this mega-share is saved in a quote.
From March 14 to March 28, all 5 of Josh Garrels' most current albums will be available for free, exclusively on Noisetrade. This free catalog of music is given as a gift, but 100% of the tips received for any and all of the 5 albums will be given to World Relief and their courageous work in Congo. Congo is currently the most unstable, violent, and impoverished country in the world, with thousands displaced due to warring factions and a majority of the women suffering from gender based violence. Please consider leaving a tip, and in so doing, becoming a partner in the work for restoration in Congo. Thanks.

So I'd imagine that it would be worthwhile to donate a little to this one if you feel like supporting a good cause. I'm always happy when people do this. As always, enjoy, and share with others.

Mad Tea Party - Found A Reason

Band / Artist: Mad Tea Party
Year: 2012
Genre: Bluegrass, Dance, Folk Pop, Indie, Surf Rock, Rockabilly

My Review:
This is totally becoming one of my sweetheart bands. I posted 3 short albums of their stuff back during the Halloween specials. Here's their site.

http://themadtea.wordpress.com/

This time around, the album is full length, and the music is more their own. Its bluegrass and indie folk, but still slips in and out of the rockabilly and surf rock sounds for tracks here and there. If you like any dancey country stuffs, or just have a thing for acoustic instruments and retro sound, this might be awesome for you. I danced in the car to it my whole drive.

Josh Garrels - Love & War; B-Sides & Remixes

Band / Artist: Josh Garrels
Year: 2011
Genre: Breakbeat, Folk Pop, Jazz Rock, Modern Classical

My Review:
A soulful mix of acoustic guitar, waves of orchestral instruments, electric guitar, Brass instruments, and a backing chorus, that all rise and soar together to make this mans voice sound transcendant.

There are elements of breakbeat, funk, classical, jazz rock, and a bunch of other shit going on.

Random posts - Ivan and Alyosha - The Cabin Sessions Demos

I just got contacted by a viewer to the blog suggesting this demo set. So thanks a bunch! Here we go...

Band / Artist: Ivan & Alyosha
Year: 2012
Genre: Folk, Indie Folk, Folk Pop

My Review:
They are a northwest indie band with that folksy, acoustic sound that indie bands love so well, but with just a bit of that country hometown band sound, and their photo collection with instagram, like these;

Tons of good shots for album covers.. Anyhow, here is their site if you want to see more of their stuff.

They just signed with dualtone records, which hopefully means they are set for a few years to grow and evolve, and hopefully build up a big fanbase. They are absolutely your thing if you like Mumford & Sons or Johnny Flynn.
