My Review:
I really wasn't feeling this the first time I heard it. Not in the least, and here we are, like 3 years later and I'm really digging it. "No Taste" really sticks and I'm all for their sound, and their commitment to sharing their jams.

They hail from London it seems, and since I've heard this sound so much out of UK punk, I labeled it as its own special thing. I hope they wander over the pond and stop in Nola one day, it'd be cool to enjoy their stuff in person.

If you like this, then listen to their EPs, they are pretty rad.

If you like X-Ray Spex, and other femme fronted punk, then you'll love the hell out of this. These guys are in Melbourne, Australia, and they play hard, and very fun punk rock.

Ever want to just flail violently in a mosh pit, or smash some shit? Well here is some music for that.

The Satans are a band out of Highland Park IL, who started out in the best I can tell around 2012. Ah, okay so they started as a solo project and snowballed into a full band. These are the two albums they've got out there so far. Its some good, rough ass hardcore. Their facebook is here.

I like that they sound so gritty without having that really poor recording studio sound that comes along with a lot of hardcore, so, good on you guys for not using poor recording methods.

Afternoon Records is their label. They live in St Louis. They erupt music. Punny punny punk.

Okay so they make a fest, thrashy, gritty sound that makes me imagine that their shows have a lot of moshing or jumping around. The use of synth is great, because it's more grimy than I'd expect.

Imagine the face of the newly desegregated America, had the growth of the Motown era of R&B been only one part of our culture spearheaded by black artists. Mystified - Love Hiatus

Not a single per se, this is 3 tracks, just short enough that I'd rather share it under a singles post this time. It is a dark ambient, IDM, and Illbient set, which reminds me a lot of some early Aphex Twin. There are elements of breakbeats in it, and some soundtrack feeling in parts.

Mystified has been releasing on Treetrunk Records pretty steadily for quite a few years. This is what this release is described with;

Three songs created mainly for emotional content. No weird sources or strange ideas here, other than that finding love has changed the life and music of Mystified.

Wiccans - Field II LP

My Review:
Hot DAMN, I was not expecting the balls on this one. Its MEAN, in a really good way. I saw the name Wiccans, and thought it'd be kind of a more mellow thing, but it is very strong hardcore punk with a taste of metal  and some old southerner rock in there.

A little about the band. They are a 5 member hardcore band out of Denton, Texas (near Dallas). They are using 3 labels; Hardware, Pass Judgement, and a new favorite, Kartoga Works. Here's their Facebook page.

It has moments that sound like the Blue Oyster Cult, and then a vocalist that makes me think of a young frontrunner to Fear Factory. All together, it makes for a nice, somewhat short, but overall very satisfying album to grab. Big thanks to Kartoga Works for being such a badass record label.

Extra - New York's Alright 2013 Preview

 So in April, there is going to be a punk festival in New York. They released a sampler of the kinds of thrashing, oldschool punk that will be played there.

I'm not a very huge fan of the Oldschool punk, probably because I came of age during the first wave of less-punky-punk in the 90s. I can still appreciate what it is, and hopefully some of the punkers out there will appreciate this one for what it is. Raw, abrasive, arrhythmic, and pissed.

My Review:
They're Punk, they're Alt Rock, they're rough and tumble. With a female singer that defenitely rocks the mic, and a great backup behind her. They remind me of early smashing pumpkins, the nymphs, and a little bit of the casualties.

Apparently their name is a reference to both an illustration and the term for the 50-foot sound wave of the lowest F tone audible to the human ear. The singer is named Kristin Hersh, who played in Throwing Muses for 20+ years, along with the bassist, Bernard Georges. They picked up the drummer Rob Ahlers in 2003, and started working out a tour while making their first album.

By 2005, they released an LP, and kept on touring and releasing more. In 2009, they released all of their music for free, and THEY OPENLY ENCOURAGE YOU TO BURN COPIES. They want people all over the world to take copies of their music.

I've enjoyed one of their albums, Free Music!, since about 2007. Good music for the gym.

My Review:
I've been on the internet for far too long. I laughed pretty hard at that cover.

Sunny side up is a ska band living it up in the OKC (Oklahoma City). There's probably a good chance that you did the same thing I did when reading that. You thought "Holy shit, I haven't thought about ska since the 90s". WELL GUESS WHAT, YOU! YOU'RE GONNA LISTEN TO IT!.. well I guess you don't HAVE to, but you would be missing out. I may have some predisposition to enjoying this band, since I grew up through that 90s positive punk and ska movement, and have a love for eggs.

Somewhere between a punky sublime and the mighty mighty bosstones. Its really fun, and good too. There are some more reggae moments a few tracks in, and a moment or two of collegian white boy spoken word/rap. If you were a trustifarian, you'd hate this. If you're a huge old school Jamaican ska puritan, you might find it a little too active for your tastes. But if you don't often label yourself with either of those, then you should really give them a chance.

If I ever pass through Oklahoma City, I'm going to have to try to catch them playing live.

This album is sort of a compilation, but all of the bands listed are just the members of Windom Earle, a digital garage punk/ new wave/ comedy band.. thing. They have a ton of music released on their website, and here is that website.

I enjoy this album a lot, for its silly lyrics, and the way it all comes together in the playback. It has just enough comedy to be funny without distracting from the performance overall. I don't know how much more i can say to explain this album, and I suggest it for a test listening.

This is an album of Nine Inch Nails Covers. I was pretty surprised at how pleasing it was to listen to as a random garage-rock band cover album. This was a promo freebie to promote their own album, Teen.

Obviously the original Nine Inch Nails tracks are more awesome, but I was enjoying it. And any band that uses images from the Akira manga as their background for their name gets points in my book. If you like them and want to see more, go check out their blog here.

From recently digitized archive records. its a really nice little mixtape of old vaudeville, jazz, punk, rock, experimental, and hymnal sounds. I won't lie, some of these tracks aren't good, and they kill the flow of the mix. Either way, the tracks that are good, are worth enough to merit downloading this one.

This album is a mash-up of old Fugazi and Wu-tang clan. I love it, and definitely think that you might too. The guys behind it have started into some other projects that I haven't gotten to look at yet. Cecil Otter & Swiss Andy are their names. They are or have been involved in Doomtree, Porcelain Revolver, Field Guide, The Millionth Word, The Swiss Army, as well as their own solo albums.

You might have to go down the blog a bit to find the album. This album is really comfortable, and creative. It pretty much rocks (and raps... LOL PUN)
