Richard Houghten - All Guitars 2

Band / Artist: Richard Houghten
Year: 2017
Genre: Folktronic, Experimental Rock, Covers, Acoustic

My Review:
This is different. The entire recording is made through use of an acoustic guitar that has been manipulated to create wild soundscapes, covering tracks by Aphex Twin, Orbital, Dj Shadow, Bonobo, David Lynch, and more.

I am really liking hearing the cover of Aphex Twin's "On", or Orbital's "Halcyon & On & On" for sure.

It's a good mix to add to a chillout set, for sure. Only part of this that I would rag on, is the cover art. Not the worst thing I've seen, but I'd offer to help work on it if it were a friends piece. Thats just me being an art major, nitpicky asshole type.

Anyway, the songs have good depth, play in a very complimentary way to one another, and leave me with a great morning playlist. I might reach out to this guy and ask if he'd like to be involved in a project I have going.,.. but thats something I'll share with all of you a bit down the road, when I have my house in order (its almost there!)

Talking Heads: Live at Wembley Arena, 1982 / Psycho Killers - Live at Recher Theatre, 2010

Band / Artist: Talking Heads, Psycho Killers
Year: 1982, 2010
Genre: New wave, Post-Punk, Dance Rock, Art Punk, Experimental Rock, Funk, Covers

My Review:

Happy sunday. A friend shared a video of Talking Heads playing a live gig in Rome in 1980, and so I decided to look around for a little bit to see what other videos there might be for them out there. This is one part video art montage, and one part live show by the band. Its a nice way to spend my day amidst the weekend of rain we're having here.

Also, because I'm in a mood. Here's a public domain release from Psycho Killers, A Talking Heads cover band playing live. Its pretty grand for covers. They have a bit of their own sound, and make a pretty smooth sounding cover set.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Robotanists - Robotanists Does The King of Limbs (in 24 Hours)

Band / Artist: Robotanists
Year: 2011
Genre:Indie Pop, Indie Rock, Alternative Pop, Covers

My Review:
This one had me at a bit of a curious position as far as posting it.

On the one hand, it is a good, free album, filled with material that I enjoyed. On the other hand, its a beat for beat cover of the whole king of limbs album.

I decided after a while that I would post it, because they really did a good job tearing down and rebuilding the whole Radiohead album within 24 hours of its release, which is an impressive enough feat for me to be cool with showcasing them.

As far as the band themselves go. They have an indie rock sort of sound, and they like to keep to the low key rises.

Here is their blog.

Its a great album if you're just a Radiohead fan, or if you wanted to hear that album sung by a woman and performed by a more raw, analogue sound. I guess it'd be a good one to take if you wanted a legally "stolen" version of king of limbs as well. Give it a shot, and welcome to 2013.

Psychic Teens – Halo

Band / Artist: Psychic Teens
Year: 2012
Genre: Industrial, Punk, Garage, Alternative Rock, Covers

My Review:
This is an album of Nine Inch Nails Covers. I was pretty surprised at how pleasing it was to listen to as a random garage-rock band cover album. This was a promo freebie to promote their own album,
Teen.

Obviously the original Nine Inch Nails tracks are more awesome, but I was enjoying it. And any band that uses images from the Akira manga as their background for their name gets points in my book. If you like them and want to see more, go check out their blog here.
